People are playing cricket in spain. Sounds odd, isn't it! But that's true. Spain has it's own national cricket team participating in various international cricket tournaments. Some Bangladeshi cricket team are also a part of spanish cricket. Bengali cricket club is one of them. Bengali Cricket Club started playing national leagues from 2008 in Catalunya Zone. 2008 is the historical year of catalunya cricket. First catalan cricket league started in year 2008.
Bengali Cricket Club started playing in 2007. In 2007, for the first time there was 4 cricket team played a friendly cricket tournament in Tarragona. This tournament was organized as the preparatory tournament of La Manga T20 cricket tournament. Bengali Cricket Club took part in this tournament. Bengali CC won one match against La Manga Cricket Club. Mohib Hussaini and Amar Saeed from Falco Cricket Club rented a ground in Tarragona to play cricket league. For there hard work and time Catalunya Region managed to start there first cricket league. In First cricket league there was 8 team including Bengali Cricket Club.
All cricket club of catalunya includes only pakistani and Indian citizens, Bengali Cricket Club was the first and only cricket club till 2011 that are played and organized by local Bangladeshi citizens. In year 2011 another cricket club named Bangladesh Cricket Club started playing, later this team changed there name to Bangladesh Kings Cricket Club. In 2016 another cricket club named Raval Sporting Cricket Club registered under catalunya federation. Last year Bengali Cricket Club started a junior cricket club with the name of Badalona Cricket Club. Badalona Cricket Club consists of players of aged between 14 to 19 years.
